On 4/30/26, students will experience a train ride to Charlotte, NC to engage in a learning opportunity at the NASCAR Hall of Fame. Students will learn how energy is needed to make everything move-from humans to machines. They will also learn the art of NASCAR racing. Students will conduct an energy experiment by building a battery-powered car or alternative energy cars. Greetings Sixers Family! Oh The Places We'll Go………. And this time it will be by TRAIN! We are pleased to inform you that our Sixers teams will be traveling to Charlotte, NC to visit and explore the NASCAR Hall of Fame. This field trip will take place on April 30, 2026. Payments are non-refundable. Our sixth grade students and chaperones will depart from the Amtrak Train Station at 7:00am and return at 6:30pm. Students will need to arrive by 6:30am at the Amtrak Station - Durham (DNC), 601 W Main St, Durham, NC 27701. Our students will be supervised by their team teachers, Assistant Principal Ms. Edwards, and approved DPS chaperones. Parents, please sign up to be a chaperone (cost:$60-includes round trip train ride to Charlotte). Your assistance will be greatly appreciated. Students will have lunch at the NASCAR Hall of Fame. Lunch will be purchased from Bojangles or students may bring their own lunch. There is a student criteria that has to be met in order to participate on this Field Trip. Your student MUST not have failed a class for the 3rd nine weeks. not receive out-of-school suspension or RPC more than 2 times this school year.
